Edinburgh Airport shut down by IT issue just as holiday travel season gets under way

Edinburgh Airport was forced to shut down Sunday afternoon due to an unspecified IT issue, disrupting travel plans for numerous passengers as the busy holiday travel season gets underway.

All flights into and out of Scotland’s busiest airport were grounded at 4:15 p.m. local time. Some incoming flights were diverted to Glasgow Airport, located approximately 50 miles away.

Edinburgh Airport officials stated that engineers are working diligently to resolve the IT issue.

“Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights with their respective airlines before traveling to the airport,” the airport said in a statement.

This unexpected disruption is causing significant inconvenience for travelers during a peak travel period.
